 All About Bright Steps Academy

Welcome to Bright Steps Academy — a sensory-aware, small-group preschool in Barrie, Ontario for children ages 18 Months to 7 who thrive with routine, movement, and clear expectations. Bright Steps Academy was created with one purpose: to help children build confidence, independence, and school readiness in an environment that feels calm, predictable, and respectful of how young children actually learn. Our programs are intentionally short-day (9 AM to 12 PM, Tuesday to Friday) and highly structured, allowing children to engage deeply without the fatigue or overwhelm that often comes with long, unstructured days.

We focus on active, movement-based learning, daily routines, and participation skills that prepare children for kindergarten and beyond. Through small groups, consistent educators, and thoughtfully designed activities, children learn how to follow routines, communicate needs, take initiative, and feel capable in group settings. Bright Steps Academy is not a traditional daycare and not a clinical program. We are a structured preschool readiness program for families seeking structure, dignity, and clarity in early learning — including neurodivergent families and parents of sensory-sensitive children. Founded by Te-Anna Alain-Burke, who built Bright Steps Academy from personal experience walking the path many of our families now walk. Whether you're preparing your child for kindergarten, easing them into structured learning, or looking for a program that prioritizes confidence and routine, Bright Steps Academy offers a thoughtful path forward — where every step is intentional, and every child is supported.
